WWI memorial monolith at Phiro village

A WWI Memorial Monolith, honouring 28 persons from Phiro village who went to France in 1917 and returned in 1918 (among the 21st Naga Labour Corps) during the World War I, was unveiled at Phiro village during the 63rd Phiro Village Students’ Union Conference cum first Youth Conclave held from December 27 to 28 at Wozhü Panka, Phiro Village.

The monolith was unveiled by Zanbemo Lotha (IPS), Rtd. Additional Director of Police after a dedicatory prayer by Rev. Thungjanshio Odyuo, pastor Phiro Baptist Church on December 27.

The monolith was sponsored by W. H. Patton, Retd. Additional Drugs Controller.
The event was graced by Wonchio Odyuo, Addl. Secretary, Finance department graced the event as chief guest and a prayer of blessing for the students was led by Rev. A. Rapvuo Odyuo, Home Evangelist Phiro Baptist Church.

Khyolamo Tungoe, PVSU president welcomed the gathering and emphasized the significance of the occasion. On the occasion, ten achieves from various fields during 2024 were felicitated and “Late Pandit Lisow Excellence Award” was conferred on two outstanding students.

Competitions on painting, essay writing, and extempore speech, was also conducted.
The evening concluded with a fellowship program hosted by PVSU and featuring representatives from Phiro Village Youth Organisation (PVYO), Wokha Town Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (WTPPS), Kohima Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (KPPS), and Dimapur Phiro Pongdenro Senchüm (DPPS).

Meanwhile, the first Youth Conclave under the theme, “Reigniting the Flame”, was held on December 28, with participants from various organisations such as Phiro (PVYO), Wokha (WTPPS), Kohima (KPPS), and Dimapur (DPPS).

Theme speaker Dr. Mhabemo Ovung, Dermatologist at Zion Hospital, encouraged the youths to embrace their potential and become responsible citizens, who contribute meaningfully to society.


Workshops on various topics were conducted by three resource persons: “Entrepreneurship” by Lanthamo Tsopoe (The Bamboo Shoot Restaurant), “Exam Prospects” by B. R. Tungoe, co- founder The Aspire Academy and “Awareness on Mental Health” by Nzanrhoni Patton, Research Scholar, Royal Global University, Guwahati.
A prayer of blessing for the youth was led by Rev. Thungjanshio Odyuo, pastor Phiro Baptist Church. Indigenous games competitions were also conducted.


The two-day event concluded with a vibrant Musical Night, featuring stellar performances by Lapla Tungoe (Project Anonymous Band, Vocalist), Abigail Odyuo (proprietor of Shofar Music Academy), Lonachen Patton (Singer & Song Writer), Nzanmongi Ovung (singer & song writer), Ajanro Odyuo, Lopeno Odyuo, and Chonchibeni Odyuo.
