Deputy chief minister Y. Patton and the BJP Nagaland unit on Tuesday extended congratulations to Nitin Nabin on being elected as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In his message, Patton said the new responsibility reflected the confidence placed in Nabin’s leadership, experience and dedication to strengthening the party across the country. He acknowledged Nabin’s consistent work, organizational skills and strong connect with party workers, which have played a meaningful role in advancing the party’s vision and outreach. Expressing optimism, Patton said he was confident that under Nabin’s leadership, the party would continue to grow stronger, deepen its engagement with citizens and work with renewed energy for national development.
Meanwhile, BJP Nagaland organized congratulatory programmes at the party offices in Dimapur and Kohima to celebrate Nabin’s election as the 12th national president of BJP.
At the Dimapur programme, minister for PHED and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, graced the occasion as chief guest. He described the event as a moment of joy for the BJP family across the country and said it symbolized Nagaland’s participation in nationwide celebrations following the announcement made by the Prime Minister of India. Jacob expressed confidence in Nabin, noting that the young leader in his mid-40s was expected to bring a fresh and dynamic style of leadership to the party. He highlighted Nabin’s long political journey, pointing out that he has been elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly for five consecutive terms since 2006 and is presently serving as a Cabinet Minister in the Bihar government.
The minister also underscored Nabin’s organizational experience, recalling his tenure as president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and later as BJP Bihar State president.
He said the party was fortunate to be led by a leader with deep grassroots experience and strong connections with eastern India, including the Northeast. “With his dynamic leadership, we are hopeful that the political landscape in eastern India, including West Bengal and the Northeast, will witness a positive transformation,” Jacob remarked.
On the growth of BJP in Nagaland, Jacob emphasized the need to strengthen the party’s base beyond Dimapur and expand activities across all 17 districts of the state.
He lauded the efforts of BJP councilors and party workers in Dimapur and Chümoukedima, terming their growing presence a positive sign for the party’s future. He assured party workers of full support from the BJP Legislature Party, stating that all 11 BJP legislators in the state were committed to the party’s progress. Urging members to actively contribute, he cautioned against complacency and stressed that growth required collective effort and patience.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, Jacob expressed optimism about BJP’s prospects in states facing upcoming elections, including West Bengal.
He said the party had high expectations from Nabin’s leadership, guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and added that the new president’s grassroots background would strengthen the party nationwide. On a query regarding the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation related to the Guwahati High Court bench complex, Jacob said the matter had not been discussed by the state cabinet and maintained that the state government spokesperson would provide official clarification.
Earlier, the invocation was offered by BJYMM Dimapur district vice president Azatoli Zhimo, while BJP Mahila Morcha State president Tsachola Rothrong delivered the welcome address. The vote of thanks was proposed by BJP State Spokesperson Bendangyanger.
At the Kohima programme, state office bearers and representatives of various Morchas attended the celebration. State ST Morcha president, Thomas Magh, extended a congratulatory message, describing Nabin as a young and dynamic leader who would carry forward the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He prayed that God grant the new president wisdom, understanding and discernment to take righteous and timely decisions for the nation. The programme was chaired by State Mahila Morcha general secretary, Chubala Janquinker.
