Y Patton, Nagaland BJP condemn pre-poll violence

State deputy chief minister, Y. Patton, who is also holds crucial home portfolio, has strongly condemned the pre-poll violence at Longkhum village under Mokokchung district, which that resulted in the death of one person.
Patton expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Imrongsungba Imchen, who succumbed to injuries while being referred for medical treatment.
The deputy chief minister conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones. He also wished speedy recovery to all those who were injured in the incident.
Patton stated that violence had no place in a democratic process. He said that elections must remain a platform for the expression of the people’s will, and not become a source of fear, anger, or division.
The deputy chief minister said that such incidents weakened public trust and disturb the sense of unity among communities.
Patton has urged people of Koridang constituency, across political affiliations, to remain calm and exercise restraint. He also appealed to the public to work together to ensure that the upcoming by-election was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

BJP Nagaland state unit through its media cell stated that stated that violence in any form had no place in a civilized and democratic society. The party affirmed that it stood firmly for peace, rule of law, and democratic principles, and expressed belief that all differences must be resolved through dialogue and lawful means.
BJP state unit expressed deep regret that while political leaders and candidates publicly advocate non-violence and peaceful campaigning, the ground reality has exposed a grim contradiction.
The party said the incident has not only tarnished the image of the 28 Koridang A/C but has also brought disrepute to Mokokchung district as a whole.
BJP state unit appealed to the responsible authorities to urgently investigate the matter, apprehend all those involved, and ensure that the perpetrators were awarded the strictest punishment as per the law.
Further, the party reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful, free, and fair elections and urged all citizens, party workers, and stakeholders in the Koridang constituency to reject violence in all its forms and uphold the values of democracy, unity, and harmony.
BJP state unit also extended condolences to the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with them in this hour of grief.
