Yachem Buhu Pangthai celebrates Golden Jubilee

Yachem Buhu Pangthai (YBP) celebrated its Golden Jubilee at Yachem village under the theme, “Sounding peace in unity” on January 4 with S. Pangnyu Phom, minister for Health & Family Welfare as guest of honour and Hamba Phom, senior pastor Dimapur Phom Baptist Church as speaker.

A joint press release issued by YBP chairman Manchong and Yachem Students’ Union press secretary, Nokchem Angth stated that the minister speaking on the occasion urged the gathering to be positive in their approach and uphold the true sense of jubilee as a time for reconciliation, forgiveness and with regrets for past mistakes.

Acknowledging the unique history of the people, he regretted that there was no written record that would help maintain authentic history. The minister opined that with the rise of educated people, whatever is collected from known sources and elders should be properly documented.

Recalling the past, Phom said that the forefathers were hardworking, dedicated, honest, self-sufficient and never depended on others. However, Pangnyu lamented that the present generation was plagued by divisions and isms. In this regard, he urged the gathering to be economically self dependent and eradicate the mindset of easy earning.

Congratulating the Pangthai for their successful 50 year of journey, he urged them to continue to work for reformation of society, maintaining peaceful environment within its jurisdiction and upholding the integrity and principles of their customary laws. He also hailed the pioneers of the Pangthai for their sacrifices and contribution.

Speaker of the jubilee, Hamba Phom speaking on the topic “Sounding peace in unity” said that peace was essential for any development and growth in society.

He also said that the world and the society should acknowledge the peace treaty signed between Yachem and Changtongya as an example for all the peace loving citizens of society.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the community hall of Yachem village. Commemorating the jubilee, a citizens’ seminar was also organised with Rev. Phomlee Van, M. Nyathei Phom and M. Shayung Phom as the resource persons.
