Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, inaugurated the Naga Organic Outlet at 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, near the LPG Bottling Plant, under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCD-NER) on July 28.
Speaking at the event, Yanthan said the outlet aims to promote organic agricultural produce and provide processed food services to consumers, while encouraging healthy and sustainable farming practices. He noted that since the launch of MOVCD-NER in 2015, several Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) have been formed, actively promoting organic farming across Nagaland and the Northeast.
Yanthan stressed the need to assess the scheme’s impact in terms of investment and outcomes. He highlighted Nagaland’s potential in organic farming and packaging, and urged stakeholders to strengthen market linkages. While branding and packaging standards have improved, he said efforts must be made to increase production volume to meet external market demands.
Calling for collective action, Yanthan urged departments, service providers, entrepreneurs, and farmers to work together towards a sustainable future through organic agriculture.
Director of Agriculture, Sanuzo Nienu, also spoke on the importance of the outlet. The programme was chaired by Dr. James Chawang, joint director of Agriculture.
