YAPO calls for release of coal mine owners

Yanmhon Area Public Organisation (YAPO) has called for release of coal mine owners arrested in connection with the tragic mishap at a coal mine near Ruchan village in Yanmhon area under Bhandari sub-division be released on humanitarian ground.

Expressing deep anguish over the colliery incident last week that claimed six lives and injured four others, YAPO president N Matthew Humtsoe and general secretary Likao Khenjung said the mine owners were presumably operating coal business over the years after obtaining all proper transit pass by paying all requisite fees/challan to the department concerned.
They however expressed dismay at having learnt that all rathole mining were illegal, and the mines owners were thus arrested for further investigation.

While insisting that the mine owners should be released on humanitarian ground, the YAPO leaders also requested the state government to pay compensation to the victims appropriately. Further, YAPO urged the competent authorities to revisit mining safety rules and regulations in consonance with the requisite extractions and movement permits so that all legal requirements could not be compromised at all levels.

The signatories declared that the YAPO would halt the extraction of coal mine and movement of coal-laden truck within its jurisdiction till the matter was solved. They also conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured labourers a speedy recovery.
