Yimchungrü GBs’ Federation (YGBF) and Public Forum Shamator (PFS) have separately demanded revocation of January 2, 2016 state cabinet decision that disallowed holding of Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA) golden jubilee programme at Shamator.
In a press release, YGBF president K. Lakiumong and vice president Musumong alleged that the state cabinet’s “hasty decision” was a “systematic design to humiliate” the two MLAs from the Yimchungrü tribe and the Yimchungrü public at large.
Asserting that Shamator town was never a controversial town, YGBF said YAA as law abiding and peace-loving body submitted a letter to the competent authority on November 10, 2015 seeking due permission to host its Golden Jubilee in Shamator Town because of wrongful declaration of Shamator Town as disputed land. However, YGBF said “unfortunately it was kept delayed for the reason unknown to us”.
It said the permission was sought “for the sake of assisting” the state government in averting unwanted law and order situations.
YGBF said the act of the state cabinet “knowing the fact that the Tikhir is not a recognized tribe” in Nagaland and directly favouring/supporting the Tikhir sub-dialect than the Yimchungrü tribe “manifests an apparent guidance by a mala fide intention” and giving undue advantages for creating the law and order problems.
Appreciating YAA for displaying maturity in acceding to the appeal made by the state cabinet to defer the date of holding jubilee and temporarily lifting indefinite bandh, the federation urged the state cabinet to reciprocate the honour and cooperation displayed by YTC and YAA.
YGBF therefore asserted that the previous cabinet decision should be revoked before January 14, 2016 in order to avoid the “unpleasant law and order situation.”
PFS: Public Forum Shamator (PFS) has said the state cabinet decision disallowing YAA golden jubilee at Shamator town “without having any concrete facts and figures” was the “most abominable step” the people of Nagaland had ever witnessed.
In a press release, PFS president Tokiu and general secretary K. Akiu said the state cabinet, instead of creating another fresh problem by disallowing the YAA Golden Jubilee, should have solved or at least neutralized the law and order problem by rather allowing the YAA golden jubilee and also open a door for peaceful negotiation thorough democratic means.
Stating that YAA showed its maturity by adhering to the appeal of the state cabinet to defer the scheduled Jubilee celebration, the forum said it was up to the state cabinet to reconsider the previous decision and allow YAA to conduct its jubilee celebration at Shamator town.
It maintained that the state government was well aware that “Tikhirs are Yimchungrüs”, adding that there was “no logic why the Yimchungrüs should obstruct Yimchungrüs from conducting their own programs and functions.”
PFS cautioned that if the state cabinet still remained adamant with its stand even after knowing “what is white and black”, then the state government should bear responsible for any unfortunate happenings that could arise owing to the lapses.
