The Yongshei and Yungja village councils jointly celebrated Yinglong Pangmoo, a premier post-harvest festival of the Phom community, on October 2 at Yongshei village with traditional gaiety and cultural vibrancy.
Deputy Commissioner of Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, graced the occasion as special guest and lauded the village community for promoting the festival. He said the celebration aimed to revive and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the ancestors, while fostering friendship and unity among the community. He expressed hope that the festival would be recognised at the state level and propagated across all Phom villages.
The significance of Pangmoo was highlighted by P. Haüjai, Hd. Barick, who explained that the festival, like many Naga traditional celebrations, is rooted in thanksgiving after the completion of agricultural activities. With granaries filled from a bountiful harvest, the community celebrates with reverence and joy.
The term ‘Pang’ means Autumn and ‘Moo’ means Festival, and the six-day celebration carries distinct significance for each day.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by S. Konang and featured invocation by Pastor S. Isak Keikung (YBA), note of appreciation by P. Nokthai (VCC), poem recitation by N. Medtüng, words of encouragement by Tangha Village Council Chairman, modern folk song by YBYE, benediction by Y. Henüh (Associate Pastor for Women), and a traditional folk dance by Chingshing Vangvünglaa Vangchong. The celebration concluded with a Pangmoo feast.
