Youth Cultural Fest celebrated in Longleng

The Longleng Town Students Union (LTSU) successfully organized the 2nd edition of the “Youth Cultural Fest” on April 2 under the theme “Know Thy Roots” at the public ground, Longleng. The vibrant celebration brought together young participants from across the town’s 11 wards in a spirited display of tradition, culture and unity.
The event featured a wide range of competitions, including cultural dances, folklore performances, war cries, fat-eating contests and other traditional activities, all reflecting the rich heritage of the community.


The programme opened with traditional performances and the symbolic “Beating of the Log Drum” by the Yongnyah Hongnyü Union, setting a powerful cultural tone for the day.
Special guest EAC Imkongnukla Ao, in her address, emphasized the importance of skill development, humility in work and self-sustenance. She encouraged the youth to remain disciplined, seize opportunities and strive for continuous growth.
Highlighting the significance of cultural preservation, she urged young people to stay connected to their roots, promote their language and avoid divisions based on tribalism.
The closing ceremony was graced by Major Shubham Pakhare of the 12th Assam Rifles, The Daredevils, who served as the valedictory guest. He inspired the youth to uphold discipline, unity and dedication in all aspects of life. The enthusiastic participation of the youth underscored their commitment to preserving cultural identity while showcasing talent and reinforcing community spirit. Dignitaries praised the organizers and participants, encouraging them to carry forward the essence of tradition and cultural values.
The fest concluded with Shamkang Ward emerging as the overall champion, marking a memorable celebration of heritage and unity in Longleng. (DIPR)
