Youth trained on vermi-composing; demo on millets, potato cultivation

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung in association with State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema & MANAGE, Hyderabad conducted a six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme at Chuchuyimlang village under Chuchuyimlang block, Mokokchung from February 6 -11. In another programme, ATMA also carried out demonstrations on cultivation practices of millets and potato.
The training was held on the topic “Vermi-Composting”. Dy. Project Director, ATMA, Mokokchung, Sentinaro Longchar highlighted on the aims and objective of the training.
The resource persons for the technical session were Toshinenla Pongen, JSCO, department of Soil & Water Conservation, Mokokchung; Sentinaro Longchar, Dy. Project Director; Shilunokdang, Assistant Technology Manager, Mangkolemba Block, along with the Block Technology Manager and Assistant Technology Managers of Chuchuyimlang block, Mokokchung. They spoke on various topics.
The training ended with valedictory programme where certificates were distributed to the participants. Altogether, 15 unemployed youths from Chuchuyimlang village attended the skill training programme. Inputs such as portable Vermicompost beds, watering can and Earthworms (Eiseniafetida) were distributed to the participants.
Cultivation practices of millets
ATMA Tseminyu Block conducted a demonstration on cultivation practices of millets at Phenda village on February 9. The need based topic from the farmers with the international year of millets was demonstrated by resource person, Sharon Kent, ATM Tseminyu block. The cultivation practices were briefed on certain criteria’s such as the spacing, types of millets, preparation of soil, climate and seeds.
Demonstrations on ‘packages and practices’
ATMA Bhandari Block conducted demonstrations on “Packages and Practices” of “cucumber” and “chilli” and another demonstration on the “Usage of Biofertiliser” at Roni New village under Bhandari Block, Wokha district on January 24, 2023.
Resource person BTM Wolithung Kikon demonstrated on the “packages and practices” of cucumber. The resource person emphasized on its health benefits, transplanting, irrigation, weeding and cultivation of cucumber. In the technical session, BTM Wolithung gave a hands- on demonstration on nursery seed bed preparations for cucumber cultivation. Meanwhile resource person ATM Tracy Mozhui demonstrated on the “Packages and Practices” of chilli. The resource person emphasized on its health benefits, transplanting, irrigation, weeding and cultivation of chilli. In the technical session, ATM Tracy Mozhui gave a hands on demonstration on nursery seed bed preparations for chili cultivation.
In another demonstration, resource person ATM Jonjibeni Mozhui gave a demonstration on the “Usage of Biofertilisers” wherein she stressed on the benefits of using biofertilisers and also the various applications and methods of using biofertilisers. After the session, seeds and biofertilisers were distributed to the attending farmers. Altogether 10 farmers attended the demonstration programme.
Potato cultivation
A demonstration on land preparation for potato cultivation, dehaulming in potato and collection of soil sample was conducted by ATMA Noksen Block, Tuensang at Yonyu village on February 7. The demonstration was carried out by ATM Wetosangla Chang and a total of 15 farmers and ATMA functionaries attended the programme.
