Youth urged to explore wider job avenues

DIMAPUR: Ministry of Labour and Employment organised a programme under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM VBRY) at LG Hall, CIHSR Hospital Campus, Chümoukedima, as part of a nationwide initiative to promote formal employment, support first time workers and encourage job creation on June 19.
According to DIPR report, Commissioner & Secretary, Labour & Employment and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Robert Longchari, who graced the event, urged youth to broaden career aspirations beyond government jobs, which he said had reached a saturation point. He encouraged educated youth to explore opportunities in the private sector, entrepreneurship and emerging fields, stressing that every sector today requires skilled professionals.
Longchari highlighted that employment generation and workforce expansion remain key government priorities, with PM VBRY addressing both by promoting formal employment while extending social security benefits. He noted that workers entering the organised sector become eligible for provident fund coverage, pension and insurance protection, ensuring long term financial security.
During the programme, nine employment letters were distributed to newly recruited workers. Earlier, Regional PF Commissioner S. Das delivered the welcome address, while short speeches were given by Labour Commissioner Avile Vitso, CIHSR medical superintendent Dr. Bendangtoshi Jamir on behalf of employers, and employee representative John Magh Rengma. Administrative officer K. Bhattacharjee proposed the vote of thanks.
The regional programme was followed by live streaming of the national event from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed incentives amounting to Rs. 2,400 crore to over 15 lakh beneficiaries nationwide. The outreach was conducted simultaneously at around 200 locations across India.
PM VBRY, a flagship Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme, provides financial assistance equivalent to one month’s wage (up to Rs. 15,000) for eligible first time employees, while incentivising employers for up to two years to generate additional jobs. The manufacturing sector is eligible for extended support for a further two years, encouraging sustained job creation in labour intensive industries.
