Youth Voters’ Festival 2023 in Kohima

The maiden “Youth Voters’ Festival 2023” was conducted at the DC’s Conference hall on October 10. Under the banner of SVEEP activities, a spirited Youth Parliament debate on “One Nation, One Election: A boon or a bane for Indian Democracy” was organised, drawing participants from various local institutions, including Model Christian College, Japfii Christian College, Kros College, Nagaland University Meriema, and St. Joseph College.

DC and DEO, Kohima, Shanavas C, expressed delight at the students’ enthusiasm in addressing a pressing democratic topic. Emphasizing the essence of participation over competition, he also posed critical questions on the integrity of current electoral practices and the genuine exercise of democracy.

The debate witnessed exemplary performances, with Leah A Yeptho from St. Joseph College taking the lead, followed by her college mate, Kepozo Kapuh. Keneisetsonuo Chatsu (St. Joseph College) and Keviseto Zutso (Japfii Christian College) shared the third spot.

All 14 participants were recognized with certificates, while the top debaters received cash awards from the DC and DEO. The judging panel comprised Jt. Chief Electoral Officer Sharon Longchari, EAC Kohima Dr. Riku Khutso, and SDO (C) Kohima, Pichano Kikon.
