Nagaland YTC bans NPG tax on local traders

DIMAPUR, OCT 27 (NPN)

Federal council of the Yimkhiung tribe has resolved that no Naga Political Group (NPG) would be allowed to levy tax on local businessman/entrepreneurs (i.e. Yimkhiungs) under Yimkhiung jurisdiction with immediate effect.
In an order, Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) president Throngso Yimkhiung and secretary K Hankiu stated that the decision was taken to encourage and uplift the local entrepreneurs.
Earlier this year as well, several tribal bodies, civil society organisations, and business associations had voiced strong public resentment over unabated “taxations” and illegal collections imposed by more than two dozen NPGs.
