Zapami Village holds Women’s Day

Zapami village under Phek district, celebrated Women’s Day on Wednesday with various activities planned during the two-day event.

On January 11, the village held its cultural day while the second day which was Women’s Day was observed with a theme titled, “Thebvo Nah” which translates as Thebvo Weaves. 

Speaking as the special guest at the event, deputy commissioner (DC) Phek, Razouvolie Dozo said the womenfolk were the keepers and guardians of tradition since everything starts from home. He commended the village for putting an array of cultural and traditional which would play a significant role in teaching the younger generation to learn and keep up the practices for posterity.

Expressing his concern over drop in customary practices and traditions, Dozo pointed out the need for collective effort to revive and preserve them for the future generations. 

He expressed his appreciation to the village for reviving the age old practices and urged them to carry it forward.

Meanwhile, Dozo urged the village leaders to be accountable with public accounts while also appreciating the village for their successful implementation of programs and schemes. 

While pointing out the need to get vaccinated for Covid virus, Dozo called upon the gathering to follow all the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and directives of the state government for the safety of the village. 

During the exhortation, Geology and Mining, retired director, SK Kenye, expressed his happiness that a fairly small village like Zapami was able to organise events like the Chakhesang Public Organization Conference and cultural day. 

He credited the effort to the womenfolk saying they were the pillars and strength of the village.  

He stressed on the need for women to encourage and build each other, both in words and deeds. 

Earlier, special guest inaugurated the cultural display showcasing various demonstration such as Thebvo Doh and MenahSütsah by Women Society, village; NedolehLü by Women Welfare Society, Pfutsero; Thohli Ketshü by Women Welfare Society Kohima.
