Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI) and Hill Area Truck Owner Association (HATOA) have decided to impose an indefinite ‘Chaka Bandh’ along the Zunheboto-Mokokchung road from March 1.
ZCCI president Shikahoto Jakha told this Correspondent that the organizations were compelled to impose the bandh since the Border Roads Organizaiton (BRO) failed to positively respond to their ultimatum. The appeal was made on February 1 along with an ultimatum to the commanding officer BRO. The lifeline to Zunheboto district, Lumani to Zunheboto road, has been left neglected for decades.
In a statement, DCCI and HATOA said BRO has turned deaf ears towards their appeal and neglected the road maintenance, saying “we have no alternative way but too impose chakka bandh indefinitely starting March”.
On Saturday, ZCCI, HATOA members along with media persons and others visited the particular stretch which was in a dilapidated condition. They expressed dismay over the attitude of the BRO towards the public.
With such a road, it has not only affected transport of goods laden trucks with essential commodities, but has encouraged prices of commodities to shoot up.
The organizations further appealed to all NGOs and public to bear with the inconveniences and at the same time to extend cooperation in the interest of all. They also urged the district administration and all concerned to understand the genuine situation and to take up the matter with the BRO.
