ZCN demands repair of alternative route

Zeme Council Nagaland (ZCN) has appealed to the state government and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd to immediately repair and widen narrow portions of the road between Mhainamtsi and Dimapur.

Due to the ongoing four-lane construction works, vehicles plying between Dimapur and Kohima have been taking the alternative route via 7th Mile-New DC office-Shokhuvi-Razaphe-Mhaikam-Pimla-Mhainamtsi-Jhornapani/Medziphema.

ZCN president Dr. Tumda Newme warned that the public would be forced to totally ban diverted vehicular movements passing within the district if the authorities failed to act. The council said the narrow single lane road has been maintained and used by the citizens of Peren district for many years. ZCN said that citizens of Peren district have been “tolerating silently” for the last four-five months hoping that the government and the implementing agency would at least repair and maintain the important link road. ZCN said the road now has become deplorable, adding that commuters were witness to the condition of the road.
