Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) conducted “Jail Lok Adalat” followed by Legal Awareness programme at the District Jail, Zunheboto on July 28.
In a release, ZDLSA stated that the “Jail Lok Adalat” was conducted exclusively by ZDLSA for pending cases which saw a total disposal of four cases on criminal compoundable matter.
Later, a legal awareness programme was organized for the jail inmates and jail staff on the theme “rights of prisoners and duties of jail warders”.
Judicial magistrate first class and secretary ZDLSA, Atoka Achumi, presented the introduction and keynote address on the purpose of the programme and the role and of the legal services institution on safeguarding the rights and privileges of a prisoner.
He informed that such legal services and aid would include all kinds of services such as payment of court fee, process fees, all other charges payable or incurred in connection with any legal proceedings, providing advocates in legal proceedings, obtaining and supply of certified copies of orders and other documents in legal proceedings and preparation of appeal, printing and translation of documents in legal proceedings.
Achumi informed that the expenses in all this services including the fee of lawyers are borne by the district and state legal services authority.
Resource person and panel lawyer ZDLSA, Y. Katovi Awomi also spoke on the statutory provisions on the topic “rights of prisoners and duties of jail warders.”
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by panel lawyer, ZDLSA, Tovi Z.Yeptho and benediction by Chaplin, District Jail Zunheboto.
