Zeliang community under Peren district have expressed dismay, alleging that the state government had failed to on two issues concerning Lamhainamdi village.
In a joint statement, presidents of– Zeliangrong Baudi (N) C.R.Zeliang, Zeme Council (N) Dr. Tumda Newme, Liangmai Council (N) Khenglubo, Zeliangrong Student Union Nagaland Dithui Newmai and chairman Lamhai Village Council Haibamko and Hd GB Lamhai village Amezi claimed that on September 6, 2019 morning, “50-60 men armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the village, indiscriminately fired upon the villagers and burned down the houses.”
They said that the incident demonstrated serious challenge to the civilized society and an action that displayed complete disregard to the government’s ‘status quo’ order in force in the area since June 26, 2019.
Despite submitting a memorandum to the deputy chief minister who visited the site along with DGP, two days after the incident, no positive action was taken to nab the culprits and seize the weapons even after apse of five months, they added.
Secondly, the signatories maintained that “Lamhainamdi village was not in disputed land, as it is in the land belonging to Lamhai village, border only with Chumukedima (Angami) traditionally from time immemorial.”
They alleged said that instead of respecting the landowner’s right, a ‘status quo’ order was imposed in the area, which was practically applicable only to the real landowners and not the intruders’, who were allowed to do anything with impunity. They said there was no semblance of law being applied with the same yardstick against the alleged intruders.
Therefore, the signatories, while criticizing the lopsided attitude of the government, declared that any restriction imposed on Lamhainamdi was unfairly prejudiced action for which it “shall now be resisted at all cost from the day of issue of this press statement.”
