DIMAPUR: Deputy chief minister, Planning & Transformation and National Highways, T.R. Zeliang on Monday inaugurated the District Planning Office, Peren.
According to DIPR, Zeliang in his inaugural address termed the occasion a significant milestone in the district’s development journey and a step towards strengthening governance and public service delivery. He said the establishment of the office was long overdue and emphasized the importance of adequate administrative infrastructure in the extended model township.
Highlighting recent momentum in developmental activities, including roads, government buildings and essential facilities, Zeliang expressed confidence that the new office would play a crucial role in planning, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating programmes. He urged departments, engineers, contractors and implementing agencies to ensure strict adherence to DPRs, specifications, quality standards and timelines. He also called upon officials to utilize government quarters and facilities, stressing that their presence would help transform the new DC headquarters into a vibrant administrative centre.
Zeliang underlined that the vision behind the new headquarters was not merely to construct buildings but to develop a thriving township serving as a hub of administration and public services. He congratulated all stakeholders involved in the completion of the office building.
Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Hiazu Meru, thanked the Planning & Transformation Department for constructing the office and congratulated the District Planning Officer and staff. He underscored the role of the DPDB in addressing developmental issues through coordinated efforts and highlighted initiatives such as promoting agricultural products under the Green Peren brand.
Meru also stressed strengthening economic activities in agriculture and allied sectors, while calling for enhanced biosecurity measures against African Swine Fever.
He noted that the new district headquarters is being developed as a model township in line with its master plan and acknowledged T.R. Zeliang’s contribution towards infrastructure development.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Heinswading, Deputy Development Commissioner, Peren. Dedicatory prayer was offered by pastor Nlumbui Hengame, District Headquarters Fellowship, while Er. Haulimchoba Chang, E.E. (Planning) presented the technical report. Danyi Domeh, District Planning Officer, Peren, delivered the vote of thanks.
