In a significant political development, Zenith Sangma, the former Meghalaya Minister and the younger bother of Leader of Opposition and senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mukul Sangma, resigned from the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Zenith will be rejoining the Congress party on Wednesday after Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal has approved Zenith’s entry to the grand-old-party.
In his resignation letter submitted to Meghalya TMC President, Charles Pyngrope on Tuesday, Zenith quit from the post of Vice-President of Meghalya TMC as well as from the primary membership of party
“This has not been an easy decision. My journey with the AITC has been filled with invaluable experiences, lessons, and memories. I will always remain grateful for the trust, support, and friendship I received from colleagues, workers, and well-wishes throughout my tenure with the party,” Zenith said.
“However, i believe every phase in life has its time and purpose. Today, i feel it is right moment for me to move on and begin a new chapter- one that aligns more closely with my personal vision and the aspirations I hold for the people I serve,” he stated in his resignation letter.
A senior Congress leader who wished not to be quoted said that Zenith along his wife Sadhiarani Sangma, who is also member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, and a host of other TMC leaders will formally join the Congress in the presence of AICC, incharge-Meghalaya Dr A Chellakumar on Wednesday.
“Zenith rejoining the Congress would boost the Congress’ prospect in Meghalaya, especially in Garo Hills region,” the party leader said.
