The three-day 7th edition of the Hornbill Bamboo Carnival 2023 organised by Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) in collaboration with Tourism Department got underway on Monday at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Sovima.
The inaugural programme was graced by advisor Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio as special guest. In his speech, Zhaleo exhorted the gathering to focus on uplifting the economy though bamboo resources, which has been found in abundance across the State.
He encouraged the youths to be dedicated, innovative and acquire skills in this sector to face the challenges in life. Zhaleo also inaugurated the exhibition stalls were set up by bamboo entrepreneurs.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Dr. Tolto Metha, Team Member, NBDA. Delivering welcome address Nuzota Swuro, chairman, NBDA encouraged the bamboo artisans and farmers to be partners in developing the bamboo industry of the State.
Chakhesang folk song was presented by Vekutalu and Azolu and cultural dances were performed by the Yimkhiung Surale Cultural Society.
Special invitee, Dr. Kuzo Vadeo, ADC Chumoukedima appreciated NBDA for organising the event where various entrepreneurs and artisans have been promoted.
The carnival will feature exhibition and sales, food courts, music and fashion and cultural programmes. The main objective of the Hornbill Bamboo Carnival was to create awareness and promote local entrepreneurs and artisans by providing them a platform to showcase and sell their products.
