Zhaleo Rio stresses women empowerment at MTWO anniv

DIMAPUR: Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, on Tuesday highlighted the State Government’s efforts that have laid the foundation for women empowerment by ensuring freedom, equality of status and financial stability.
Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of Medziphema Town Women Organisation (MTWO) at Local Ground, Medziphema Town, Zhaleo termed the appointment of a woman cabinet minister in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in Urban Local Body elections as significant steps in the process of empowerment. He attributed these achievements to the PDA Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio.
Zhaleo also called upon municipal and town councils in Nagaland to cooperate with Executive Officers for effective functioning. Reminding that Medziphema is one of the oldest sub-divisions and an epicentre of politics, he encouraged leaders to be inclusive of all residents. He noted that the blend of permanent and temporary residents from diverse tribes gives the town its unique colour and strengthens the spirit of Naga familyhood.
Calling for unity, Zhaleo urged Naga society to eradicate divisive “isms” within organisations and tribal bodies that hamper progress and development. He further advocated for upholding Naga customary law as a mediator in disputes and reminded that unity is essential for achieving the Naga solution.
Zhaleo further underscored the significance of jubilee as a time of thanksgiving to God for blessings of health, peace, wealth and development. He said it is also a time to retrospect on achievements and failures, and to promote and upgrade the future.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by MTWO president Rüüzeü Khate, while jubilee greetings were pronounced by MTWO advisor Mesano Krose. The jubilee souvenir was jointly released by ADC Medziphema, P. James Swu, NCS, and Neisehuno Rino, ex-president MTWO. The celebration concluded with words of gratitude and benediction delivered by MTWO treasurer Rüünguno Niphi.
