DIMAPUr: Advisor of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs and chairman, DPDB Chümoukedima, Zhaleo Rio, has called upon all departments to ensure effective implementation of government schemes and policies so that benefits reach the targeted beneficiaries. He was speaking at the Chümoukedima DPDB meeting held on June 10.
According to a DIPR report, Zhaleo stressed on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and directed the Chümoukedima Town Council to ensure regular clearance of waste. He encouraged awareness programmes on waste segregation and disposal, assuring government support for solid waste management initiatives. He also urged departments to provide dustbins in public places and undertake plantation drives, particularly around sports and public facilities. Referring to the World Environment Day plantation drive, he advised stakeholders to plant ornamental trees to enhance the district’s urban landscape.
On traffic management, Zhaleo appreciated the police for enforcing speed limits along the National Highway, noting that strict enforcement would help reduce accidents. He reminded that no one is above the law and urged authorities to act against violators.
The meeting began with a review of the previous minutes and approved the registration of Yimkhiung Baptist Borü Society, Naga United Village. In the case of K.S. Yimchunger Society, Vidima, the board advised representatives to reapply after three years with a No Objection Certificate from the concerned tribal body.
Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima, Polan John, highlighted the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Census exercise and informed the importance of accurate data collection for planning and development.
He also informed that revised Solid Waste Management Rules cover both urban and rural areas, with segregation into four categories, and said bulk waste generators were being identified.
During the meeting, DPO DISHA, Orenthung Ngullie, presented on AIDS Suraksha, while Field Trainers Alongba Ao and Arenla gave an overview of the Census process and self-enumeration procedures. The board decided that Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) will present on Solid Waste Management in the next meeting.
