Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZLSU) has expressed strong resentment over the rationalisation carried out by Department of School Education, alleging that the centralized system failed to take into account the harsh realities faced by schools and students.
According to ZLSU president Roland Zeliang and general secretary Keyinreulu Nren, the decision clearly reflected the government’s insincerity and its failure to properly assess the ground realities. The union demanded decentralisation of the exercise, stating that rationalisation should be aimed at addressing the issues of schools, students and the community. It said the process should be based on data provided by DEO/Sr. SDEO/SDEO offices.
It further asserted that rationalisation must not be influenced by teachers’ preference for place of posting, nor should any teacher be relieved without replacement as the area was facing an acute shortage of teachers.
The union reiterated its stand that no release order should be issued from affected schools without providing proper relievers, especially in the middle of an academic session, as it would jeopardise the career of students. It urged the department to immediately review its decision in the larger interest of students and the community.
