ZPM leader H Lalremtluanga sworn in as new Aizawl Mayor

Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) leader H Lalremtluanga was sworn in as the new Mayor of Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday.
R Lalawmpuii was sworn in as the new Deputy Mayor of the civic body.
Alongside the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, 17 other newly elected corporators, including four Executive Corporators, were administered the oath of office by Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Lalhriatpuia during a swearing-in ceremony held at the municipal corporation’s board of corporators meeting hall in Aizawl’s Thuampui area.
Lalremtluanga, 43, had worked in different fields, including a teacher in a private school, an outreach worker with FXB International and an assistant in a public sector undertaking unit, before joining politics.
Lalawmpuii is currently the president of the women’s wing of ZPM.
In the recent AMC polls held on April 21, the ZPM won a landslide victory, bagging 17 seats in the 19-member municipal body, while the main opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress secured 1 seat each.
The BJP, which contested 11 seats, drew a blank.
