Zeme Students’ Union (N) held its 29th General Conference from April 24 to 26 at New Ngaulong under Kebai Area, District Peren, with Ramningle Pame, Education Chairperson, ADC Tamenlong, Manipur as chief guest and T. Lankosen Tsanglao SDO (Civil) Jalukie, as guest of honour.
The chief guest spoke about the need to wake up from the sleep of ignorance and lack of outside knowledge. He called on the gathering to unite and move forward without isms.
The guest of honour appreciated the work carried out in spite of shortcomings and spoke about the negligence in development. He said that the union’s motto ‘Education the only Key’ was fit for the Zeme people at this juncture as only education could bring changes and development.
The conference witnessed more than 200 student delegates and different social leaders from different areas. President, Zeme Students’ Union Assam, also shared a solidarity speech. On April 25, the program showcase a Musical Nite with different popular Zeme artists like Namkamlak Pame, Pezet Newme, Angeule Disuang, and many more.
The resource persons for the days wise session were: Dr. Tumda Newme, Alungle Zeliang, Deisam Pame and Herangia Pame. They spoke on different topics and shared their views and thoughts with presentations.
On the last day, election of new office bearers for the tenure of 2018-2020, was held, with Aakam Pame as 2nd consecutive term for president, Amua Francis Pame, vice president, Deichungbe Zeme, general secretary and others.
The conference concluded with pomp and gaiety. Literary day, and music enthralled the attendees for the duration of the day. The council adopted different resolutions to be implemented in the days to come.
The Organizing Committee expressed its sincere gratitude to the host villages and also to Ramningle Pame for coming and sharing her valuable time as the first women elected member in the decision making body among the Zeliangrongs.
The union also expressed its gratitude to all the generous donors, artists, resource persons and well wishers for continuously having supported efforts for the success of the conference.
