The Zeliang Students’ Union Dimapur (ZSUD) organised an open penalty shootout competition at the Dimapur State Stadium on Saturday under the theme “Stronger Together, United in Sports.”
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of 28 teams from various student bodies, youth groups, and football enthusiasts from across Dimapur and neighbouring areas.
Weekends Lakers emerged as the champions after defeating Putlang Brothers in the final. Best shooter award was bagged by Pouchundin of Weekend Lakers while the best goal keeper was awarded to Ileurang Putlang of Putlang Brothers.
The penalty shootout featured teams competing in a knockout format, drawing a large crowd of spectators. Attractive prizes were awarded to the winners, including cash rewards for the champion, runner-up, best goalkeeper and highest scorer.
The competition aimed not only to promote sportsmanship but also to strengthen unity among the youth while raising funds for student welfare and community development initiatives.
According to officials of ZSUD, the programme was part of the union’s continued effort to engage young people in constructive and healthy activities. The organisers highlighted that such sporting events help in fostering discipline, teamwork and mutual respect among participants.
The programme was graced by director of Geology and Mining, Government of Nagaland, Asingbo Newmai with an invocation by president, Fellowship of Nagaland Baptist Association, Rev. Dr. Visor H Zeliang, special invitees from Zeliang Women Organisation Dimapur, Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur. ZSUD expresses sincere appreciation to all the well-wishers and various student bodies.
ZSUD representatives expressed gratitude to all participating teams and supporters for making the programme a grand success. They also reaffirmed the union’s commitment to working for the welfare of students and promoting unity within the community.
