ZSUN highlights discrepancies in government schools

Zeliangrong Students Union Nagaland (ZSUN) during its educational tour to all Government High Schools (GHSs) and Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSSs) within the district observed some discrepancies such as shortage of teachers, inadequate blackboard and lack of basic infrastructures, which it said was needed to be immediately readdressed by the authority in charge.
In a press release, ZSUN education secretary, Idalia Samding said the union visited all government educational institutions on the theme, “Redefining responsibilities”, and interacted with concerned department officials, school management, teaching faculties and students with the objective to foster quality education.
During the visit, the union stated that many schools were found functioning without head teacher, assistant headmaster, language teacher, office assistant (UDA), LDA and computer assistants, peon chowkidar and draughtsmen. ZSUN claimed that schools has been functioning for year without subject teachers – mathematics, science and Hindi.
ZSUN said it has also resolved to abolish the “illegal proxy teacher system” and has informed those government teachers, who are unable to perform their duties, to voluntarily retire and pave way for thousands of aspiring unemployed youths.
Stating that the union would be conducting surprise checking, ZSUN said it would not hesitate to execute its “own course of action”, including liable for termination, if teachers are found absent for more than one month without leave or if found to be employing proxy teachers.
Further, the union has demanded that the concerned authority give the due right of the school at the earliest and urged all organisations to collectively shoulder the responsibilities in moulding the students.
