DIMAPUR: The monthly meeting of the Zunheboto District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, and chairman of the Urban Local Bodies & Village Council Committee and DPDB, K. Tokugha Sukhalu.
According to DIPR report, welcoming the members, Sukhalu reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and urged officials to actively participate in discussions and raise district specific issues.
He observed that Nagaland has a high ratio of government employees relative to its population while revenue generation remains limited, stressing the need for efficient utilisation of resources to ensure maximum public benefit. He also emphasised the importance of conducting public awareness programmes at least once or twice annually to educate citizens about government initiatives and encourage greater public participation.
Highlighting infrastructure challenges, Sukhalu pointed out the shortage of government quarters in Zunheboto and informed that the General Administration Guest House under construction at North Point Colony would provide temporary accommodation for officials and help improve service delivery.
During the meeting, NPF Zunheboto division president Khehoshe H. Yepthomi highlighted difficulties faced by local farmers in marketing their produce despite adequate vegetable production, proposing the construction of a rural marketing shed to support farmers and entrepreneurs.
The board approved several proposals, including registration of the Taekwondo Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and the upgradation of The Cedar School, Aghunato, which was forwarded to the competent authority. The board also deliberated on transferring unassigned public properties from the District Administration to the Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC). As part of this process, the Multi Purpose Hall was formally handed over to ZTC on a one year trial basis before final decisions are made regarding its permanent management.
