Zeliangrong Youth Organization Nagaland (ZYON) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing illegal taxation and extortion activities allegedly by underground factions in Peren district causing immense hardship to innocent citizens and business owners and undermining the peace and well-being of the community.
ZYON through its media cell condemned “these unlawful practices” and demanded immediate cessation of all illegal taxation imposed by the groups. “Such activities have placed unbearable burdens on our citizens, and we call on the perpetrators to stop exploiting the very people they claim to represent,” ZYON stated.
Affirming to stand with the principle of “one government, one tax”, the youth body cautioned that it would not tolerate any form of extortion or illegal taxation within Peren district.
In this regard, ZYON has appealed to the citizens to report any instances of such activities to the relevant authorities without delay.
ZYON also asserted that it was committed to taking prompt and decisive action in coordination with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible were held accountable and brought to justice. In line with NZPO resolution of April 23, 2021, endorsed by representatives of all villages in the district, the ZYON reaffirmed to “halt all tax payments to underground factions until they issue a written apology for their involvement in the Lamhainamdi killings of March 22, 2021.”
The youth body also affirmed to stand with the apex body in upholding the resolution and urged upon the factions to take responsibility for their actions. Further, ZYON has appealed to all Naga political groups to immediately cease their illegal activities and respect the rights and dignity of the people.
