ZYON condemns assassination attempt; demands probe

DIMAPUR: The Zeliang Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) has strongly condemned the violent incident of June 5, 2026, involving an assassination attempt and criminal intimidation against a Zeliang youth and his companions near Pimla.
In a condemnation note, ZYON president Ngautube R. Chamlak and general secretary Kibouwi Zeliang stated that the victims were pursued by an unidentified maroon Alto car between 1:50 a.m. and 2:00 a.m., during which the perpetrators fired a gunshot at the victims’ vehicle. ZYON termed the act a “cold blooded attempt to murder innocent citizens,” describing it as a breakdown of law and order.
ZYON asserted that when ordinary commuters can no longer travel safely between districts without facing gun violence and terror, it indicates a complete breakdown of law and order that cannot be tolerated by the youth. It stressed that no individual, group or cadre—regardless of affiliation, identity or background—has the right to endanger innocent lives or terrorize citizens with impunity. “The highway belongs to the public, not to armed criminals and rogue elements,” the organisation stated.
The organisation demanded immediate investigation, arrest and accountability of the culprits, and called for enhanced security measures to ensure safe travel between Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Jalukie.
ZYON also appealed to citizens and organisations to extend solidarity and cooperation by providing information related to the incident, stressing the need for justice, accountability and restoration of safety on public roads.
