ZYON puts ultimatum on hold after assurance

Staff Reporter

Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) has temporarily put on hold its four-day ultimatum served on the state government with regard to the alleged rape and murder that occurred on April 7, 2025.

ZYON president, R. John Zeliang, told Nagaland Post over the phone that the organization met the the Commissioner of Police (CP) Dimapur, K Sophie, at his office chambers on Monday.

The organisations described as “constructive and satisfactory” the meeting with CP Dimapur, adding also they were very much satisfied with the assurance given by CP.
Following the meeting, Zeliang stated that ZYON decided to temporarily put the ultimatum on hold.

The four-day ultimatum, which was issued on April 11 was set to expire on Monday.
Commenting on the incident, ZYON president informed that it was a brutal murder case and not a rape case. However, he refrained from disclosing any further details on the number of suspects apprehended so far in connection with the case.

He said the commissioner of police assured that all findings and developments related to the case would “come out” in a short span of time.
Zeliang also informed that prior to meeting commissioner of police, ZYON held internal consultations with its subordinate bodies to deliberate on the course of action concerning the ultimatum.

It may be mentioned that ZYON at a peaceful rally held on April 11 issued a four-day ultimatum demanding the immediate release of the post-mortem and forensic reports, and the arrest the perpetrator(s).

In the ultimatum, ZYON had warned that failure to meet the demands within the stipulated time would lead further agitation and the state government would be held solely responsible for any untoward incident.
