1st Meluri district open badminton tournament 2026 concludes

DIMAPUR, Oct 6 (NPN): The 1st Meluri District Open Badminton Tournament 2026, organized by the Meluri District Badminton Association (MDBA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Nagaland and the District Administration, concluded on Monday at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, Meluri.
The tournament culminated with the declaration of winners across various categories. In the Men’s Open Doubles, Atsiatho Nyuthe and Apothsutho emerged champions, while Thsukuotho Phoji and Saratho Nyusou finished as runners-up.
In the Sub-Veteran (35+) Doubles category, Javan and Kuthotso Tunyi clinched the title, with Thsukuotho Phoji and Saratho Nyusou securing the runners-up position.
The same pair, Javan and Kuthotso Tunyi, also won the Veteran (45+) Doubles title, while Khruosütho Nyuthe and Chahie Nyusou settled for the runners-up spot.
In the Women’s Doubles category, Atsarho Phoji and Lowie Kajiri emerged victorious, while Küthsülo and Eülüacy Thurr finished as runners-up.
The winners and runners-up were presented with certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding performances and achievements during the tournament.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Meluri, Shelly Katiry, graced the closing ceremony as the guest of honour. Addressing the gathering, the ADC emphasized the importance of sports in promoting physical fitness, recreation and overall well-being. He encouraged young people to actively participate in sports and make it an integral part of their lives.
Highlighting the significance of Meluri’s status as a district, Katiry stated that the Meluri District Badminton Association provides an important platform for youth to develop their sporting talents and pursue badminton professionally. He lauded the association for successfully organizing the district’s first-ever badminton tournament and expressed confidence that the event would inspire greater interest and participation in sports.
The ADC further urged the MDBA and members of the Pochury community to work collectively towards improving sports infrastructure and facilities in the district. He called upon citizens to contribute towards creating better opportunities for aspiring athletes in the years ahead.
Concluding his address, Katiry extended his best wishes to all participants and expressed hope that the inaugural tournament would pave the way for the continuous growth and development of badminton in Meluri.
