Govt schools left on the lurch without adequate books: MTLT

Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) said it was alarmed to note that hundreds of students studying Mokokchung government schools were reportedly attending classes without adequate textbooks.
With barely a month left for their first terminal exams, MTLT public grievance cell in a press note stated that this has not only affected the students, but have left them teetered.
MTLT said it was aware of the “desperate measures adopted by the different schools in xeroxing the previous year’s textbooks in order to make up this inadequacy”. It questioned the Department of School Education as to how far such arrangements would sustain. It also questioned why only some received their textbooks and whether the textbooks under SSA scheme were meant only for some classes?
MTLT also expressed concern that the scheme for free distribution of uniform has no uniformity. It said that despite free distribution of uniforms (cloth), many families were unable to afford the stitching cost. This has rather become a burden than a privilege to wear the uniforms, it added.
MTLT further said it was shocked to note that schools were not receiving “school maintenance and repairing and school grant”. MTLT has demanded that the due grants be released in a timely manner for the smooth functioning of the schools.
Meanwhile, MTLT has welcomed Nagaland Governor’s demand for a thorough ‘probe into the scams in Education department and acknowledged ACAUT’s demand for CBI probe. While stating that there have instances of alleged uncounted discrepancies in the Education department, MTLT said such issues needed to be rectified at the earliest.
MTLT further said that it stood by its motto– “Always Vigilant” and would keep a check on issues that concern the people.
