Peace Channel conducted teachers’ training program under the theme “Education for Transformative Life” on April 19 at Don Bosco Youth Center, Wokha with an aim to capacitate the teachers to impart education for transformative life, to train them to equip with leadership skills and for a peaceful classroom environment in the institutions.
A press release from peace channel desk stated that speaking on the occasion, peace activist, Garrol Lotha spoke on how peace education can be incorporated in the educational system for transforming lives. She said that peace education was the process of acquiring values, knowledge and developing the attitudes, skills, and behaviours to live in harmony with oneself, with others and with the natural environment. She also added that peace education can be use to impart knowledge and preparing youth to have positive outlooks towards life.
Garrol shared the main objectives of peace education i.e. to appreciate the concept of peace, to address fears, understand the nature of conflict, provide information for their solution, develops inter-cultural understanding and to explore potential for a future without violence. She also stressed on the strategies that could be used to promote peace in times of conflicting situations. She encouraged the teachers to be role models for students by building a better rapport with the students. All together 7 teachers from four schools participated at the program.
