Poll violence: Mkg police arrest 24 persons

Mokokchung police on Friday arrested 24 persons in connection with poll related violence under Mokokchung district.
According to SP Mokokchung, Raguramarajan A. 15 persons were arrested on Friday after a clash erupted between supporters of two rival parties. Both sides resorted to stone pelting, the SP said adding, no one was injured in the clash and no properties were damaged. The arrested persons were booked and charged under Sec 147 (rioting) IPC.
In connection with the death of a youth in Tuli town on Thursday, the SP said nine persons suspected to be involved in the incident were arrested.
Based on specific inputs, a police team raided various locations and detained nine suspects.
The SP said that the detained persons were apprehended with catapults and marbles. The suspects were later shifted to Mokokchung for interrogation.
Meanwhile, Mokokchung police also seized around Rs. 5.30 lakhs in cash on Friday reportedly belonging to a candidate.
