
Various Naga civil society organisations have welcomed the breakthrough achieved in the Naga peace process between Government of India (GoI) and the Naga political groups— NSCN (I-M) and Working Committee, NNPGs.
NTC: Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has welcomed the “successful process of political negotiations to the very logical end of a solution and congratulated the Naga negotiators — WC, NNPGs and the NSCN (I-M)— and the Government of India represented by Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks, RN Ravi.
In a press release, NTC president Toniho Yepthomi and general secretary Nribemo Ngullie said the council was “ever grateful to the Living God, the God of the Nagas who mercifully blessed the Naga political negotiators to overcome every negotiating hurdle and have reached the desired goal for a solution.” NTC also thanked all the dedicated prayer groups, individuals and Churches of all denominations “for the success of what has been achieved for a solution.”
Further, NTC thanked the 14 Indigenous Naga tribes of Nagaland, and the Nagaland GB Federation for having stood in unity, saying their “expressive support for solution was a crucial requirement at the very critical juncture.”
The council also thanked the Indigenous Minority tribes, and the indigenous citizens of Nagaland for the steadfast encouragements and support for the timely political solution.
Also, NTC expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appreciated the “dedication, the magnanimity and the flair managements of the lengthy process of negotiations” by RN Ravi, Governor and Interlocutor and for bringing the “doubtful situation to a future of hope.”
Further, the NTC expressed gratitude to the chief minister of Nagaland and his colleagues and the Opposition Members for the “unstinted cooperation to the process of negotiations.” The Council further thanked the State bureaucracy for the “relentless cooperation” during the process of negotiation.
NTC said it was also grateful to all those NNPGs who set aside their differences and with all humbleness positively responded to the wishes of the people of Nagaland, formed the Working Committee and participated in the talks in the spirit of oneness through which the solution was persuaded.
Meanwhile, the NTC has appealed to Naga people to be aware of being swayed away by the “rampant spread of disinformation and fake news” on the latest developments.
Stating that both the government of India and the Naga leaders were dedicatedly working for a brighter and better future for the Nagas, the NTC has, therefore, called upon everyone to extend cooperation to make the October 31, 2019 culminated talks into a reality.
14 Naga tribes: The 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland have expressed contentment over the latest development in the Naga Peace Talks wherein the Government of India and the NSCN (I-M) on October 31, 2019 reached a consensus to resolve the protracted “Indo-Naga” Political issue through peaceful means.
A statement issued by the leaderships of the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland stated that the process of Naga peace talks, which had dragged on for more than 22 years, finally was to be seen concluded in the manner acceptable and as desired by all stakeholders. They said that accomplishment of a decision such as that of the October 31 was “historic” and only possible through a “perfectly divine intervention and nothing else. “As the Naga people have faith in our Living God, we always rest our hope and future in His time and measure, they said.
While welcoming the magnanimity of all the concerned Naga negotiators, the leaderships of the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland expressed happiness and extreme appreciation especially to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi; the Home Minister, Amit Shah; GoI Representative and Interlocutor, RN Ravi, NSCN (I-M) GPRN Ato Kilonser, Th. Muivah; WC, NNPGs Convenor, N. Kitovi Zhimomi and all the leaders instrumental in the Naga Peace Talks. “The days that are to come shall be seen as a new dawn in our Naga unity and faith only unto the Creator Almighty,” they stated.
NSF: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed joy over that the understanding that was reached between the Government of India and NSCN (I-M) at the October 31, 2019 meeting.
In a press release, NSF president, Ninoto Awomi, and general secretary, Liremo R Kikon, said the federation has always maintained that the abrogation of the peace process due to differences between the negotiating would prove too costly for the future of the Nagas. “The NSF welcomes this positive development and appreciates both the parties to the political dialogue for adopting such progressive policies and resorting to ways that could eventually reign in a peaceful future for the Naga people,” NSF stated.
The federation maintained that the recent development was another landmark towards amicably resolving the “South-East Asia’s longest movement for self determination in a manner which will uphold the legitimate rights and unique history of the Nagas.”
TCLPeF: Tirap-Changlang & Longding Peoples Forum (TCLPeF), on behalf of the people of Tirap Changlang and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Saturday welcomed and appreciated the government of India and both the NSCN (I-M) and NNPGs for agreeing to “finalise peace accord soon.”
In a press release, TCLPeF president N Changmi Muklom said that people of Tirap Changlang and Longding, after decades of violence, were hopeful that peace would ultimately prevail in the region especially Tirap Changlang and Longding.
“Our long cherished desire of TCL has been achieved. We the TCL people don’t want violence anymore,” the forum stated.
Meanwhile, TCLPeF has appealed that no organization should make any attempt to create misunderstanding/unwarranted situation in the peaceful state of Arunachal Pradesh.
ZCOs: Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs)— Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Student’s Union— on behalf of the Zeliangrong people living in the States of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland, have expressed appreciation to government of India for bringing the decades long Naga political movement to conclusion.
ZCOs media and publicity cell lauded the sincerity, commitment and determination of Interlocutor for Naga Peace Talks RN Ravi. The Zeliangrong people also hailed and congratulated the NNPGs and NSCN (I-M) for “not losing the golden opportunity” but understanding the desire of the Naga people.
ZCOs stated that the strong political will displayed by the government of India in ending the decades-long Naga political issue showed its determination to usher in long lasting peace in the region.
The Zeliangrong organisations expressed hope that the government of India and Naga political groups (WC-NNPGs and NSCN-IM) would now work out a mechanism towards moving on the path of peace and progress without backtracking.
ZCOs also appealed to every individual irrespective communities both Nagas and non Nagas living in the State of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland to remain calm and spread the message of peace and harmony in the region.
