ATMA, Sechü Zubza block training

ATMA, Sechü Zubza block conducted a training and demonstration programme at Khonoma on July 18.

A press release by ATMA Sechü Zubza block stated that, training on the topic “general management practices of backyard farming of pig rearing and poultry farming” was conducted by BTM, Tseminyu block Dr. Vibeilie Keretsii as the resource person. Housing system, location, feeding practices, disease management were discussed in detail. He also said that piggery was the most potential source of meat production after the broiler, whereby pig rearing and poultry farming would provide employment opportunities to rural farmers and supplementary income to improve their living standards. He also spoke on how traditional feeds such as additional farm produce and kitchen waste provide inadequate nutrition to support acceptable growth rates and thus to maintain good health of the livestocks. He stressed on the feeding of balanced concentrate feed to pigs and that the concentrates are readily available in the market nowadays.

Thejavizonuo Kelio, ATM gave a demonstration on “cultivation practices of groundnut with sweet corn”. Considering the need of technical guidance in introduction of the crops which were fairly new to the farmers, a hands-on demonstration was done. 

The resource person highlighted on the cultivation practices and stressed on the importance of inter-cropping. Seeds were distributed to the farmers. This was followed by an interactive session. The programme saw the participation of an FIG group consisting of 9 women farmers, and the farmer friend of the village.
