
State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema, organised two-day online training programme on “entrepreneurship development through post harvest management and value addition of horticultural crops” for ATMA functionaries from October 29 to 30.
A press release by SAMETI, director and principal IETC, Medziphema, stated that resource persons for the training were assistant professor, Dr. Gracely I Yepthomi and assistant professor, Horticulture, NU SASRD Medziphema, Dr. Sentirenla Jamir.
Topics on value addition of horticultural crops and entrepreneurship development through post harvest management were covered during the training. Video clips of successful entrepreneurs based on post harvest management and e-marketing was also displayed for the participants. Training programme was aimed to train ATMA field functionaries at creating awareness and understanding about importance of post harvest care and value addition to reduce losses after harvest and increase food availability throughout the year thereby providing food and nutritional securities. Training further highlighted how appropriate post harvest management and processing can utilise unmarketable produce and processing waste for gainful purpose besides generating employment and rural industrialization.
