Dimapur Government College Alumni Association (DGCAA) inaugurated its alumni centre cum students waiting shed at DGC on February 6.
Addressing the gathering as guest of honour, Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA, stated that the construction and inauguration of the waiting shed was the perfect example of giving back to the college and society for the knowledge gained from the college.
He was of the view of such kind of philanthropic activities should not be by choice, but should be a way of life. The act of philanthropy is the need of the hour in Nagaland, Longkumer said.
He further stated that Nagas wanted change, better roads, better infrastructure, state of the art hospitals, etc., yet they were seldom willing to come out of their comfort zones and were afraid of change.
He added that they had to go away from what was familiar to them rather than watching from a distance and expecting others to bring the change they need. He concluded his speech by quoting John F Kennedy, “ask now what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country”.
Meanwhile, administrator, DMC, Albert Ezung in his speech acknowledged DGCAA for the successful completion of the waiting shed and the alumni centre without delay.
He stated that a meaningful development required development in one’s mindset and inculcate a sense of responsibility.
Ezung later assured DMC’s collaboration with DGCAA for further projects.
Delivering welcome speech and project report, president, DGCAA, K Temjen Jamir, stated that the project was started in the year 2019, and completed with a total cost of around 17 lakhs collected through contribution from its members, DMC and college faculties.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by treasurer, DGCAA, Mahesh Agarwal while benediction was offered by asst. prof. DGC, Dr. Benjong.
Short speeches were also delivered by principal, DGC and chairman, Oriental Colony Council.
It may be noted that DGCAA started in 2016 and since its year of formation, the association has completed three projects: two gates, one canteen and the recently inaugurated alumni centre cum waiting shed.
