NPF through its media press bureau has accused the ruling PDA coalition government in the state of having utterly failed in handling the second wave of Covid pandemic.
According to NPF, while the PDA coalition continues to claim that it was fully prepared to meet the second wave of the covid pandemic, the ground reality was however totally different. NPF claimed that when facilities at various government hospitals in all districts were accounted , there is hardly anything worth mentioning especially involving covid related facilities.
NPF said even the Naga Hospital Kohima and Dimapur Civil Hospital which should have been sufficient by now to cater the needs of the COVID patients, presented a different picture when compared with the government’s version of having the required facilities.
NPF reminded that after the first wave of the pandemic in 2020, the state government should have prepared itself for the second wave even if it had failed to tackle the first wave.
However, NPF said the PDA government was rudderless instead of taking appropriate steps to contain the pandemic. In its statement, NPF had listed shortages in district hospitals and CHCs and urged upon the PDA government to provide all the basic requirement urgently as listed.
It further issued a detailed list of “urgently required items/shortages” in various Covid hospitals, CHC/ across the state.
Some of the requirements include– Phek Covid hospital: 4 cardiac monitor for ICU, 2 AED Defibrillator, 10 oxygen concentrator 10 L and 5 ICU beds.
CHC Meluri, Chozuba and Pfutsero: 2 oxygen concentrators, 10 oxygen cylinders (2 medium and 8 big size) each.
In Longleng Covid hospital: 10 oxygen concentrators, 4 cardiac monitor, 50 B type oxygen cylinders and 15 D type oxygen cylinders
Peren district: CHC Tening requires two doctors, ICU, 5 oxygen/5regulators etc.
Zunheboto Covid hospital: 30 B type and 12 D type oxygen cylinders, cardiac monitor etc.
Tuensang Covid hospital: 9 Arterial blood gas analysis machines, 10 auto analysis bio-chemistry machine, 12 Automated Blood Cell Oxygen Plant-Hematogy Analyser etc.

Wokha Covid hospital: 20 D type oxygen cylinder with regulators and accessories tubes, 30 pulse oximeter etc.
Mokokchung Covid hospital: 4 cardiac monitor, 2 AED Defibrillator, 4 BP apparatus, 50 pulse oximeter etc.
By attempting to extend the lockdown without relief measures to the public especially the daily wage earners, NPF said such a step would be “unethical on the part of the present Government”
NPF said its view was that lockdown can be enforced if required but not for a very long duration.
The party also expressed appreciation to the efforts of the Front-line workers especially the medical fraternity in tackling the Pandemic and urged upon the Government to look into the welfare of the front-line workers including the citizens of Nagaland living below poverty line who are the worst sufferers in terms of economy because of the statewide lockdown.
