60% increase in hospital admission from last week
Highest fatality since June 12– 24 deaths including 9-day old infant
State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department has once again raised concerns over the rise in Covid-19 related hospitalization and deaths in the State as compared to the previous weeks.
In its weekly bulletin released on Saturday, H&FW department said that 128 hospitalizations (between July 24-30) were recorded, which was the highest as compared to the previous weeks (June 5 till July 24) while the death toll also saw a spike at 24, as compared to the past weeks (June 12 till July 24).
The department also informed that a 9-day-old infant succumbed to Covid-19 in the past week.
“There has been a marked increase in Covid-19 hospital admissions in the week with a 60% increase from the last week. This indicates high undetected/unreported Covid-19 transmission in the community,” the health department said. It said that Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung reported the maximum number of hospital admissions.
Decline in positivity rate: The weekly positivity rate also dropped to 6% from the previous week’s 8%. However, Kohima reported the highest weekly sample positivity rate at 13% followed by Mokokchung-8%, Wokha-7%, Dimapur and Phek- 6% each.
Vaccination: Taking note of the death of a 9-day-old infant from Covid, the department stressed on need for adults to get vaccinated for the safety of all. “As children cannot be vaccinated for Covid-19 yet, vaccination of parents, elders and teachers will reduce transmission to children along with adherence to Covid-19 personal safety measures,” the department stressed.
State logs 159 fresh cases, 5 deaths: Nagaland on Saturday recorded 159 fresh Covid-19 positive cases while five more patients succumbed to the infection.
Of the fresh cases, 61 were from Kohima, Dimapur-47, Tuensang-26, Mokokchung-15, four in Peren, three in Mon, two in Phek and one in Wokha, taking the total caseload to 27872.
Further, three patients succumbed to the virus in Dimapur and one each in Mon and Wokha, pushing the death toll to 566 (including 14 non-Covid deaths).
PTI: With a single-day rise of 41,649 new cases, India’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 3,16,13,993 on Saturday, while the death toll due to the viral disease shot up to 4,23,810 with 593 more people succumbing to it, the Union health ministry said.
