National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland has vehemently condemned the ragging of a Naga student at the boy’s hostel of North Eastern Hill University (Tura Campus) Meghalaya on October 8, 2023.
In a press note, NSUI said that the incident has come as a shock and a sense of distrust and insecurity has been created in the campus. “A place of learning must be free from any sort of discrimination and threats as such which may hamper a student’s career,” the union said.
The unfortunate incident has not only put the future of the student at stake, but was also a gross violation of humanitarian values, it added. Pointing out that ragging was a crime, the union strongly call upon the vice-chancellor of NEHU to immediately step in and take remedial measures to ensure that such incidents does not happen again in the campus.
The NSUI was of the strong opinion that the culprits should be immediately identified and apprehended under relevant sections of the law. Meanwhile, the union expressed its deepest sympathy to the victim and the family and assured that the matter would be pursued until justice was delivered.
