Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA, S Toiho Yeptho, was elected unopposed to the post of deputy speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on the first day of the ongoing fourth session of the 14th assembly on Monday.
NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer declared that S Toiho Yepthomi, who represents 33 Suruhoto assembly constituency, was the only candidate to have filed nomination for the post and that he has been unanimously elected unopposed as NLA deputy speaker.
Toiho’s name was proposed by NDPP minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse and seconded by NCP MLA P. Longon.
Congratulating Toiho on being elected the deputy speaker, the chief minister Neiphiu Rio said Yeptho possessed a rich experience in public service and therefore although it was his first time as a member of the House, he would be able to perform his duties smoothly and effectively.
Rio said Yeptho was not only good in handling public service, but was also a successful businessman, and a progressive farmer as well.
Rio expressed happiness that Yeptho has also comfortably won the mandate of the people which indicated that he had the public’s favour with him.
The chief minister expressed hope that Yeptho would be able to pick up the duties and assignments with ease and also be efficient in performing them.
He said any government should enjoy the confidence of the House at all times and that the Legislative Assembly exercises its control on the government while making laws and regulations.
Rio hoped that under the leadership of the speaker and the newly elected deputy speaker, the House would be efficient.
NLA speaker Longkumer also extended congratulations to Yeptho.
Yeptho thanked the chief minister and the legislators for unanimously electing him to the post.
He sought the support of the Speaker and members in performing his duties as per the trust and confidence of the members. “I shall perform my duty in all sincerity with dignity and impartiality preserving the rich tradition of the August House,” he said.
NCP legislature party: State NCP legislature party leader, Er. Picto Shohe, MLA, conveyed congratulations to Toiho Yepthomi, on being elected unopposed to the post of NLA deputy speaker.
Er. Picto Shohe thanked the chief minister Neiphiu Rio and all the members of the legislative assembly for having faith and trust in NCP and electing the party MLA unopposed.
Though a first timer in the legislative Assembly, he said Toiho has a vast experience and knowledge in the field of politics. With responsibility vested in him as deputy speaker, Er.Picto said Toiho Yeptho would be able to make a difference in many ways for the people of the state.
NCP legislature party leader expressed hope that with this new task placed before him, the newly appointed deputy speaker would execute his duties with impartiality and deliver justice to all. Er.Picto, on behalf of the NCP legislators, wished Toiho the very best in his new assignment.
