Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) Wednesday expelled Lok Sabha MP W. Wangyuh Konyak from the party for a period of six years with immediate effect.
NPF president Dr. Shurhozelie said the NPF working committee meeting held on Wednesday at the central party office, decided to expel Wangyuh for a period of six years from both primary and active membership of the party for defying the party’s directive in the recent vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha.
“The decision to expel him was more than unanimous,” the NPF president told this correspondent after the working committee meeting, which was attended by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, NPF cabinet ministers, Rajya Sabha MP Khekiho and senior party leaders. “We have expelled him (Wangyuh),” Rio also told this correspondent.
NPF secretary general Chubatmejen said, “We will be communicating to the Lok Sabha speaker informing about W. Wangyuh’s expulsion from the NPF party.”
Asked whether the NPF would still continue to give issue-based support to the UPA government, Shurhozelie said “yes we still will continue to give issue-based support to them. Earlier, I had written to the two MPs ( Wangyuh and former Rajya Sabha MP TR Zeliang), asking them to give issue-based support to UPA government and even during the Presidential election also to vote for UPA candidate.”
He however said the UPA government reciprocated by declaring President’s Rule in the state.
