In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old youth drowned in a pond at Seithekima C, Chümoukedima district, on Monday.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 1 pm when a group of friends went swimming. The victim identified as Ekhyothung Tsanglao, who did not know how to swim, tragically drowned despite attempts by his friends to save him.
Following the incident, local residents tried to recover the body but were unsuccessful due to the pond’s depth, which is estimated to be between 25 to 30 feet, and the muddy water. Personnel of SDRF had been deployed to fish out the body. Efforts to retrieve the body are still ongoing.
