NSCN (I-M) has voiced strong objection to the Government of India’s (GoI) move to strengthen what it termed as “illegal occupation” by abrogating the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and initiating border fencing along the artificial Indo-Myanmar border.
In a press release issued through its MIP, the group accused the Indian state of seeking to further divide the Nagas by reinforcing what it called “unrecognized, imaginary international state boundaries imposed on Nagalim and significantly undermining the Naga national struggle.”
NSCN (I-M) criticized this policy as a colonial “divide and rule” strategy to crush the Nagas under the pretext of combating insurgency, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking, while defending that this safeguards “national security and integrity.” However, NSCN (I-M) maintained that wanton action was directly attacking the brotherhood existence of the Naga people residing in the present states of India and Myanmar.
NSCN (I-M) said that Nagas do not accept the “arbitrary division of Nagalim” whatsoever and such act of segregating Nagas who are existing as a family, people and nation in their own land was unacceptable and a flagrant violation of international law.
Criticizing government of India’s “oppressive strategy” was never an answer to resolve the more than seven decades old Indo-Naga political conflict, NSNC (I-M) said that the decision to scrap FMR and enforce border fencing has hurt the Nagas, especially in light of the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015. The group asserted their unwavering commitment to the God-given right as a nation and cautioned that if any untoward incidents occur, the Government of India would be held responsible.
