Villagers in Kenjenshu, Mon district, Nagaland, avenged the death of two members of the village after they were reportedly killed by a wild boar killed, in separate incidents. The victims were identified as 60-year-old S. Aknyu, a village headmen and 42-year-old P. Angba.
According to reports, in a traditional show of solidarity, armed with machetes and muskets, the villagers gathered in the Tobu area to hunt the animal. Videos shared on social media showed villagers carrying the boar’s carcass on a bamboo bier, with family members of the victims striking the dead animal. T. Konyak, a community leader, said the hunt was a response to the emotional toll of losing their fellow villagers. Though unsure if the boar they killed was responsible for the attacks, the villagers followed customary rituals to bury the animal’s carcass.
