The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has condemned the extrajudicial killing of 17-year-old Ehsan Shah by Pakistan’s Frontier Corps (FC), calling it part of a disturbing pattern of state-sponsored violence and intimidation against Baloch civilians.
Ehsan was reportedly shot on June 3 near the Lak Pass Tunnel while traveling to Quetta for Eid shopping. According to his mother, FC personnel stopped his vehicle and opened fire without provocation, fatally wounding him. Eyewitnesses claimed an FC soldier later remarked, “He’s got nothing… but he’s dead now. What should we do?”
At a press conference in Mastung, Ehsan’s mother delivered an emotional plea for justice, questioning why her unarmed son was targeted and lamenting the impunity with which such killings occur. She also revealed that her family faced threats and intimidation when seeking legal recourse.
Despite public appeals, authorities have remained silent. The BYC urged Baloch families to speak out and called on international human rights bodies to intervene.
The killing comes amid a surge in human rights violations in Balochistan. A May 2025 report by the Human Rights Council of Balochistan documented 138 enforced disappearances and 12 extrajudicial killings in a single month. Activists say these abuses reflect a broader campaign of repression, including arbitrary arrests, home raids, and the so-called “kill and dump” policy.
The BYC continues to press for global attention to what it describes as a deepening humanitarian and political crisis in the region.
