Landowners announce blockade on NH 29 at Kma-Jessami road

DIMAPUR, JUL 15 (NPN)

Aggrieved Landowners Kohima-Jessami 2 Lane Road Construction have announced total blockade of National Highway-29 from Packages 2, 3, 4 & 5 from July 17, 2025 starting at 6am in protest against unpaid damage compensations for Kohima-Jessami two lane road construction.
In a press release, convenor of the Aggrieved Landowners Kuveluyi Chuzho said the decision to impose the blockade came after the expiry of the deadline set for the payment of damage compensations, which was initially scheduled for July 15, 2025.
The convenor informed that the blockade would remain in effect until a personal confirmation was received from deputy commissioner (DC) Phek that the compensatory amount has been deposited into his account from National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
During the blockade, aggrieved landowners said only security forces, fire and emergency services, and medical emergencies would be granted relaxation. They said that the purpose of blockade was to draw attention to the unresolved issue of compensation owed to the landowners affected by the construction project.
Therefore, aggrieved landowners have urged the public to take Phek-Pfutsero-Kohima route via Zuketsa, Phek-Pfutsero-Kohima route via Chetheba and vice versa to avoid the affected stretch of NH-29.
The landowners expressed regret for any inconvenience that could be caused by the blockade.
